Black Sherif wins VGMA24 Artiste of the Year

Black Sherif has been crowned VGMA24 Artiste of the Year.

He outlasted his closest opponent Piesie Esther, who was considered a strong contender for the top honor, as well as Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Camidoh, KiDi, the current VGMA Artiste of the Year, and Joe Mettle.

He also received recognition for Most Popular Song of the Year, Best Music Video, and Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year.

Sarkodie, Piesie Esther, Stonebwoy, Niella, King Promise, Perez Musik, Kelvyn Boy, Kofi Kinaata, and Camidoh were among the other winners that evening.

Akyireba Kofi Sammy, a highlife musician, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Piesie Esther, gospel all-stars KiDi, DSL, Epixode, Lasmid, King Promise, Kwabena Kwabena, and Ofori Amponsah all gave performances.

Money, Black Sherif’s first song, was made available on May 25, 2020.

When his single “First Sermon” was released in May 2021, it garnered a lot of attention. The song’s follow-up, “Second Sermon,” and a remix featuring fellow African musician Burna Boy were both released in July of that same year.

But “Kwaku the Traveller,” which peaked at number one on the Apple Music charts in Ghana and Nigeria, helped him become more well-known and prominent abroad.

In October 2022, he released his debut album, “The Villain I Never Was,” which featured hits including “45” and “Soja.”

Black Sherif further cemented his reputation as one of the reliable artists in the year under review by hosting his debut performance, The Mozama Disco concert, in December of last year.

KiDi’s replacement at Lynx Entertainment is Black Sherif.
