Camidoh, an Afropop, R&B, and Afrobeats singer and songwriter from Ghana, has received a nomination for Best New International Act at the 2023 BET Awards.
He is competing against Asake of Nigeria, Raye of the United Kingdom, Werenoi of France, Labianca of Cameroon, Maureen of France, MC Ryan SP of Brazil, and Pabi Cooper of South Africa.
The ceremony will be place in Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on June 25, 2023.
A rising talent in the Ghanaian music scene, Camidoh is renowned for his upbeat performances, catchy tunes, and accessible lyrics. His music has received accolades for its universal appeal and has received millions of streams on Apple Music and Spotify.
When Camidoh launched “Sugarcane” on November 19, 2021, it became a huge international hit and immediately gained popularity in Ghana. Because of the song’s catchy tune and relatable lyrics, it became a mainstay at gatherings and clubs all throughout the nation.
Due to the song’s popularity, a remix was created and released on April 8, 2022. Mayorkun, Darkoo, and King Promise, all from Nigeria, were included in the remix. It was a big success and helped make Camidoh’s music more widely known.
On Spotify, “Sugarcane” has received over 100 million streams and has received a Gold certification in Ghana. Camidoh was nominated for multiple prizes, including the BET Award for Best New International Act, thanks to the song’s widespread praise from critics.
On the BET website, supporters can cast your votes for Camidoh to win Best New International Act. The deadline for voting is June 15, 2023.
