In a recent episode of the Delay Show, renowned Ghanaian TikToker Hajia Bintu was interviewed.
The show’s host, Delay, began the interview by inquiring about the origins of the viral social media phenomenon in her customary cunning manner. Along the way, the host asked her guest, “Where was your father in the picture?”. This brought up the subject of Hajia Bintu’s father.
Does it mean your father wasn’t present when you were growing up?, Hajia Bintu answered emphatically “yes” after a long sigh and a small chuckle. The host and her guest then exchanged questions back and forth about the issue of her absent father and the emotional toll it takes on her.
Delay: He wasn’t present right?
Delay: Have you met him before?
Delay: Your whole life?
Bintu: My whole life.
Delay: Have you heard his name before?
Bintu: No.. mmm, Okay, George.
Delay: Does your mom know where he is?
Bintu: No, not even my grandmother.
The 24-year-old continued by saying that despite never having seen or seen her father before, there are times when she wonders why he is not in the picture.
She continued by saying that, despite spending a significant portion of her younger years living with her father’s mother, not even her grandmother could be confident of the location of her father.
When asked if she misses her father, she responded with around 20 long seconds of quiet and loud sighs before asking that the conversation move on.
