On Thursday, a grocery store employee in a Chicago suburb was tragically shot, and her boyfriend was arrested later in connection with the crime, according to the police.
Jailene Flores, a 21-year-old Chicago resident, was captured on surveillance footage leaving her boyfriend in the southern suburb’s Mariano’s store, according to Evergreen Park Police Chief Michael Saunders. Around 9:15 a.m., Saunders said, she was shot many times and found dead inside a storage room.
Using traffic cameras and licence plate scanners on motorways, Chicago police were able to locate the boyfriend on the North Side of the city, according to Saunders. Police discovered the weapon they think was used to shoot Flores during the arrest, the chief reported. The boyfriend’s name has not been made public by the police.
The company Mariano’s released a statement in which it expressed, “We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at our Mariano’s Evergreen Park store located in Evergreen Park, Illinois.
“The entire Mariano’s family offers our thoughts, prayers, and support to all affected individuals and families during this difficult time and we have initiated counseling services for our associates.
We are cooperating with local law enforcement, and the store will remain closed while the police investigation continues.”
