Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a renowned candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, has expressed his displeasure with the way the government is handling the local currency.
On July 16, Mr. Agyapong expressed his displeasure with the devaluation of the Cedi during a campaign stop in Kintampo East. He disclosed that during the course of five months, from March to August 2022, the value of his $40 million in Cedi equivalent had fallen to $16 million.
Mr. Agyapong observed that it was strange to see an economic manager ask the International Monetary Fund for financial assistance while continuing to identify as a “strategist.”
During his speech, Mr. Agyapong emphasised the need of running an ethical campaign. He promised to respond to any criticism levied at him and emphasised the value of sensible leadership in leading the nation.
Agyapong, a lawmaker from Assin Central, advised his rivals running for flagbearer to conduct a fair and open campaign. He advised people to be careful with their words and promised to respond to every accusation brought against him.
Mr. Agyapong claimed that in comparison to his competitors, he would be a more successful steward of the economy when showcasing his economic management skills to party delegates.
He emphasised his successful enterprises, which he claimed employed over 7,000 people each month, as proof of his capacity to help lower the nation’s unemployment rate.
