The way certain purported impersonators of different Ghanaian musicians have been banding together and going on a rampage on social media has generated a lot of discussion in recent days.
When these alleged lookalikes began giving media interviews, what had first been an amusing social media trend suddenly took an unexpected turn.
Allegations that some of these lookalikes have started charging people to appear at their events as though they were the musicians themselves have also surfaced, prompting several industry players to publicly say that this trend is no longer funny.
In a Wednesday Twitter conversation with Kwame Dadzie, entertainment writer Austine Woode said that the young man who goes by the online handle Kuami Eugene Like paid some people money to play at their performance.
A video showing him singing certain Kuami Eugene songs at an event held in what appeared to be a university auditorium has now been posted online in response to this disclosure and the social media requests to stop doing such things.
The people gathered there unexpectedly applauded the young man as he practiced some of the dance movements of the ‘Cryptocurrency’ hitmaker.
