In a small town in southeast Missouri, a man was shot by a police officer.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Monday in Poplar Bluff, a town of around 16,000 people, located 150 miles (241 km) southwest of St. Louis.
According to KFVS-TV, the man’s name has not been disclosed.
According to police, an officer responding to a wellness check call discovered a man lying under a vehicle. The officer discovered that the suspect was wanted for assault.
As a second officer arrived, the man entered the vehicle and locked himself inside, finally speeding in reverse and nearly colliding with an officer, according to police.
The individual was shot by one of the officers and was pronounced dead at the spot.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is looking into the incident.
