After defeating Inter Milan to win its first Champions League championship, Manchester City became the second English team to complete the treble.
One of the greatest seasons in English football history came to a victorious conclusion with a 1-0 victory at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium thanks to a goal from Rodri in the second half.
The Premier League and FA Cup champions City replicated the record accomplished by rival Manchester United in 1999 by winning the European Championship in the same year they won the domestic double.
Pep Guardiola has accomplished this accomplishment twice in his managerial career, the first time with Barcelona in 2009.

Inter, led by Simone Inzaghi, had won seven straight cup finals without suffering a loss, therefore they surprised many with their performance. They played City head-to-head and wasted two excellent opportunities to tie the score when Romelu Lukaku blocked Federico Dimarco’s goal-bound header and then nodded a glorious opportunity off the leg of the City goalkeeper Ederson.
Before the referee’s final whistle rang, the Brazilian pulled off another outstanding goalkeeping feat to stop a looping header from a last-second corner, causing excitement in the spectators and tears from those wearing light blue on the field.
De Bruyne explains first-half substitution
“It’s been a hard two months,” De Bruyne tells BT Sport.
“I’ve got a lot of issues with my hamstring. It snapped. I did everything to be okay. I felt really good in the first half an hour. The team is good enough.”
Walker: My dream has come true
“My dream has come true, to achieve this with this club,” he tells BT Sport. “To achieve a Treble is unbelievable.
“I’m always going to be disappointed when I’m not playing but I’m 33. My example sets to the younger lads. I made a speech before they went out. This club means so much to me. To experience what I’ve experienced, I’m forever in debt.
“I said my dream is in your hands. No pressure. You can’t say Inter deserved it more than we did or we deserved it more than they did. We’re both here by merit. There has to be a loser.
“Emotions played a part. The occasion is obviously going to get to you. I got a silver one last time so to get a gold one is fantastic.”
