Myki fees for using Victoria’s public transport will increase by nearly a $1 per day starting the next week.
A daily fee will increase by 80c, from $9.20 to $10, while a single ride will go up 40c, from $4.60 to $5, beginning of July 1.
This amounts to a $208 annual hike for someone who commutes five days a week on public transit.
Additionally, all regional rail tickets on V/Line have been brought in line with those in Melbourne, so the adjustments are anticipated to be made there as well.
The price increases represent an increase of 8.7% over the current inflation rate.
A daily weekend ticket will now cost $7.20 instead of $6.70, and a single ticket will cost $3.60 instead of $3.35. Weekend costs will also rise by 8.7%.
The daily cost will increase to $6 for individuals with monthly and yearly Myki passes from $5.52 currently.
The Public Transport Users Association’s Daniel Bowen noted that prices typically only increase on January 1.
