Many Ghanaians have been dissatisfied with the country’s network carriers’ pricing for mobile data.
For many Ghanaians, mobile data is prohibitively expensive, making it difficult for them to take advantage of their internet connectivity.
One of the network providers in the nation that is well-known for offering pricey data bundles or packages is MTN.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications, spoke on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show today. The host of the show, Kwami Sefa Kayi, questioned her about what the network providers are doing about the prices in light of the widespread concerns that Ghanaians have expressed regarding the data rates.
However, the Minister asserts that figures in Ghana are far superior to those in other African nations.
She claimed that “we have one of the lowest data charges on the continent. So, it is not that bad at all”.
Ursula was chosen in 2012 to serve as the inaugural member of parliament for the newly formed Ablekuma West Constituency.
She ran in the Ablekuma West Constituency NPP parliamentary primary in 2015 and won. In the 2016 general elections in Ghana, she won with 34,376 votes, or 56.96%, of the 60,558 valid votes cast, keeping her parliamentary seat.
After a disagreement over seats allotted for female lawmakers, she and other female MPs came under personal assaults. Although she reportedly stated that she was thinking about a career in politics, the next year she was appointed Minister of Communications.
