In the 2023 final, Real Madrid defeated Osasuna 2-1 thanks to two goals from Rodrygo, giving them their 20th Copa del Rey championship overall.
At Estadio La Cartuja, the 22-year-old attacker secured Real’s first Copa del Rey victory since 2014. He scored a goal in either half.
Only twice before this match have Osasuna made it to the Copa del Rey championship game; the first time was in 2005.
Rodrygo’s close-range goal gave Real the lead within of two minutes. However, Lucas Torro’s low shot from the edge of the box on the 58th minute equalized the match.
With 20 minutes left, Toni Kroos’ deflected shot dropped into Rodrygo’s path, and he finished from close range to give Real their second goal of the game and win a spirited victory for his team.
The victory also represented Carlo Ancelotti’s second victory in the competition after he led Real to Copa del Rey glory in 2014, which was his first significant trophy with the team.
Real trail rival Barcelona by 14 points in La Liga with five league games left in the 2022–23 season. Ancelotti’s team, though, is still in the running to retain their Champions League championship and has been paired up with Manchester City in the semifinals.
The defending European champions have already won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup this season in addition to their Copa del Rey victory.
On Tuesday, Real will resume play when they host Manchester City for the opening leg of their semifinal match at the Bernabeu.
