Mabel Teye-Nomo was fired from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) after she was seen in a viral video spanking a friend.
Popularly known as Queenstar, Mabel is reported to have caned two of her hostel roommates for reportedly spreading rumors that she sleeps with professors in exchange for good grades.
After the video went viral, the University came under fire for permitting one of its students to engage in such an action, given its reputation for producing some of the best minds in the nation.
The Registrar, Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright, stated in a letter of dismissal to Mabel Teye-Nomo that her “misconduct” brought the reputation of the University into contempt.
She was additionally charged with kidnapping under Section 1.28.2(n) of the Undergraduate Students Handbook by the Disciplinary Committee, which was formed to investigate into the case.
“Acting on the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee, the Vice Chancellor as the Chief Disciplinary Officer of the University has in accordance with sanctions for the breach of the University’s regulations stated in Schedule G, Section 8.4 of the University’s Fundamental Regulations, upheld the recommendation of the Committee and directed that you should be dismissed from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) Access course being run by the University.”
