Huw Edwards’ wife, Vicky Flind, identified him as the BBC presenter under investigation for payments for sexually explicit photos in a statement made on his behalf.
On Friday, July 7, The Sun releases their first article, which includes a mother’s allegations that an unnamed BBC presenter paid thousands of pounds to their 20-year-old child over the course of three years, beginning when the person was 17 years old, for explicit images. Obtaining explicit photos of a person under 18 is illegal.
On Saturday, the Sun publishes additional allegations, and on Sunday, the BBC suspends a male employee who is now known as Edwards.
The 20-year-old identified in the initial Sun report denies the allegations through solicitors during a meeting between BBC officials and the Metropolitan Police.
The BBC also publishes a piece with new charges, and The Sun publishes two more stories with additional allegations.
The BBC also provides a timeline of events, revealing that the station initially received reports on May 18. Seven weeks later, the presenter was finally contacted.
After speaking with everyone involved in the initial allegations, the police affirm they found no proof of criminal behaviour, and the BBC investigation is resumed.
Confirming Edwards was the presenter in question and that he had been admitted to the hospital following a significant mental health episode, Flind releases her statement at the same time. According to Flind’s statement, Edwards plans to respond to the articles soon he is able.
